FIRST DIY: Upholstered Paper Bag Clutch Tutorial

I found this upholstery fabric in a cut-offs box and immediately wanted to create an ultra shaped flare out mini-skirt. Unfortunately I ran out of fabric and have now got several smaller pieces of fabric and need to find ways to use them. I love the paper bag clutch look and decided that with the thick and sturdy nature of the upholstering fabric that I would give it a go, and it turned out quite good!

I made it extremely tall compared to its relatively small width because I want to be able to roll the top over quite a bit. Now that it's finished I'm going to iron down the creases and stick some thick cardboard in the bottom to keep it in the correct shape.

And this is how I did it:

Just sew two rectangular pieces of fabric together down the two vertical sides and cut two squares out of the sides.

Press them together like so and sew down that edge.

Turn it inside out and flatten it or iron in the creases and ta-da, you're done!
