Backyard Photo Shoots

In my spare time I like to play with my camera. I love taking photos, particularly candid shots. Hopefully this year I'll get back into it a bit more. I just got a new job (only a trial) and if it goes well I'll treat myself to a new camera. But for now I'm using an old (it still uses AA batteries) Pentax DSLR that takes ok photos. Here are some shots of my stunning friend Shannon Komorr.

 

Game of Thrones Fashion Inspiration

I am in LOVE with the Game of Thrones, as much for the fashion as for the epic storyline. The costume designers really do go out of their way to create original and fantastic designs. 

These are my two favourite dress designs from the series and I'm pretty excited to have a go at DIYing something like them.

I have bought 2m of sheer black fabric and I'm hoping to create a dress in the same style as these two dresses in the sheer fabric with a black, bodycon strapless underneath. In my mind this is a stunning dress but who knows what will come out the other end.


I'm also planning to make a belt, kind of like the ones we see here, with the large metal clasps, but I want to make the rest out of neon perspex.

The five minute dress

I bought a lovely tiger print scarf a few weekends back that I have neglected to blog about. It was gorgeous, but as I don't use scarves and I've been crushing on scoop neck dresses for a while now I thought I'd try making one out of my lovely scarf. 

It was simple enough, I cut a piece of black fabric the same size as the scarf, sewed two top corners together and then half way up the two sides. Put a belt around it and this is what you get. I am super happy with the result! It really flattered my figure and was so damn easy to make!

I am also wearing the necklace which I made (featured in the last post) and a belt I made. You can't really see it but I'll post about it soon as it as ah-ma-zing.

Train Parks and Hottie Sharks

This is my friend Lesley. She is hot and I enjoy taking photos so we combined those traits to create some pretty pictures. These are from a while ago but I still really like them, and I miss this girl!

Lesley is wearing an ultra-cool vintage denim bodysuit, my old art smock, her own denim shorts and I can only assume those are one of my many pairs of vintage sunglasses. Isn't her make up cool? She thought I was crazy.

Sass and Bide Wishlist and DIY Inspiration

A few posts ago I mentioned that Sass and Bide are my over all favourite fashion design brand. This is why:

Sass and Bide do cuts so well, they just get fabric!

God I wanted (and still want) this dress so bad! I looked everywhere but the big sizes sold out quickly!

THOSE SHORTS!

Anyone could totally DIY that skirt!

And their colour palette is always perfect, like immaculate perfect.

I think I might try DIYing this with scrap fabric.

Another item to DIY for.

And this! So many ideas spring to mind. I think I'll cut the sleeves off a long vintage shirt and add some sheer panels to the bottom and wear it around like there's no tomorrow.

And yet another way to add panels to simple clothes to make them stand out as statement pieces.

Did I mention the amazing colour palettes?

Or the accessories that glam up an entire outfit?

I am so definitely going to use wide decorative trim to add a massive pop to a boring jacket (even though this is anything but)

Buy some paint and paint patches on loose wide leg pants.

Gah! This skirt is INCREDIBLE! I think I'll copy the look by creative a belt that I can wear over any skirt that has a long sheer tail at the back.

This can be created so easily with this right fabric and a little sewing.

Duct tape patterns on a shirt and then go nuts with spray paint, anyone?

This is odd but I love it. I think it would look so chic over a pair of skinny jeans or a pencil skirt. And it's so easy to DIY too.

And last but not least, this dress! Perhaps not this one in particular but just the shape! The idea of a straight maxi dress and cutting it at the front so that it has a long rectangular tail. I love it! From the back it's a normal long dress but from the front it's a style masterpiece. I am going to start buying straight dresses with nice prints at op shops and cutting them like this!

So many DIY ideas here! And it's all just so good, every season! And timeless too!

Fashion and photos

I was hoping to do photography classes once I got into the city but I can no longer afford it, so from now on it's practice practice practice.

I only wish I took it with me more places but I never seem to remember it, and if I did I think I'd probably take 2000 photos a day. It's really about quality not quantity though, and that's something I need to learn. That and the ability to take quality photos!

This is my best friend Shannon, as you can see she's absolutely gorgeous! She also has great style, and styled both these outfits pictured herself with some of my vintage clothes.

The coloured striped top which can barely be seen is a tight fitted men's 70s tee from Target. It is gorgeous but unfortunately I couldn't convince Daniel to wear it.

The blouse is a gorgeous sheer secretary blouse with a stunning front bib crochet detail (the photos don't do it justice!). I absolutely love it! Unfortunately it looks horrible on me and as a result i's up for sale on Etsy.

DIY inspiration

So now that I'm in Melbourne, with no cash and gorgeous clothes on shop racks EVERYWHERE! I am dying a little bit inside. You know that point when you feel like the things in your wardrobe aren't quite you anymore? I'm about two months past that point! Without any money, I'm going to need to figure out a way to change my wardrobe. And that way will probably be DIY. Here is some DIY inspiration which I hope to create asap!
